This serene still life captures the essence of a quiet morning with a blue vase holding a native Australian flower, a moka pot, and a collection of cups and saucers. Set against a blue backdrop, the scene includes a Basquiat book and strawberries, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere. Melanie often starts the day with coffee and a favourite art book, which she paints in this work. She first fell in love with Basquiat as an aspiring young artist in her early twenties, and his bold paintings continue to inspire her.
