This cheerful still life captures the essence of sunny days with a bright bouquet of sunflowers in a decorative vase. Set against a pink background, the composition includes a plate of freshly picked apples and a Matisse book, adding a touch of rustic charm. During Melanie's most recent trip back to Italy she unpacked a few boxes that had long been in storage and found this favourite old jug and one of her many books on Matisse. The apples in the painting came from a friend’s tree and the sunflowers were bought at a roadside stall.
